Today, in front of the whole class, one of my students told me that I was the meanest teacher that he ever had!
Last year I had this young man for pre-algebra, obviously he still has nightmares. However, he then proceeded to say that out of all of his teachers, I was the one that taught him the most, because I didn't treat him like a special ed student. I expected my students to learn what the "regular" students learn. Then he asked if I could teach his reading class, because he knew that I would expect him to learn.
For all the complaining I do about work, I will definitely miss stuff like this.

Awesome. I remember my hardest teachers were always the best ones too. We need more people to raise the bar, not lower it.
Sweet! I'm so flattered to know the "meanest teacher"....I also have had that title bestowed upon myself....and I am very proud of it...you are so right, we need to treat our students as students...Keep up the good Work!
Haha! I'm glad I'm not the only mean one. However, it's better then some of the other things I've been called :)
Wow, Jess. I can't think of a greater compliment from a student. that's so great. I'm jealous (only partly) that you get to be teaching instead of staying at home, working where I can. I would really love my own classroom.
So, your blog almost never updates for me and I have no idea why! I kept checking it for months and it was still on the "boots" post! I missed the pregnancy! WHAT?! and all of that fun stuff.
congrats!
So he said you were mean but then wants you to teach reading?!
Thanks for posting regularly. I need to check it out more often. I never heard, boy or girl?
